Cardugen, formerly known as Merck-Doxazosin, contains the active ingredient Doxazosin and is primarily used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. Doxazosin belongs to a class of medications called alpha-blockers, which work by relaxing the muscles in the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily.
Dosage:
The typical starting dosage of Cardugen (Doxazosin 4 mg) for both hypertension and BPH is 1 mg once daily. The dosage may be increased gradually, under medical supervision, to achieve the desired therapeutic effect. The maximum recommended daily dose for Cardugen is 8 mg, taken as a single dose or divided into two smaller doses.
Usage:
- Hypertension: Cardugen is commonly used to manage high blood pressure. It helps to lower blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more freely. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medications. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and adjustment of the dosage may be necessary to achieve optimal blood pressure control.
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Cardugen can also be used to alleviate symptoms associated with BPH. By relaxing the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder neck, it improves urinary flow and reduces the symptoms of urinary urgency, frequency, and difficulty in initiating urination. It is important to note that Cardugen does not shrink the prostate gland itself.
It is essential to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider and take Cardugen exactly as prescribed. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, and they can be taken with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets unless instructed otherwise.
Cardugen should be used with caution in individuals with liver or kidney problems, as the dosage may need to be adjusted. It may also cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when standing up quickly. It is advisable to rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to minimize the risk of falls or fainting.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
